Ryan Phillippe gets mistaken for his daughter’s brother.
The 42-year-old actor has three children – Ava Elizabeth, 17, and Deacon Reese, 13, with ex-wife Reese Witherspoon, as well as five-year-old Kai with former partner Alexis Knapp – and says his baby-faced appearance embarrasses his eldest daughter because he regularly gets ‘mistaken for her brother’.
Asked by The Late Late Show host James Corden on Thursday if he was an embarrassing dad, Ryan said: ‘If you asked them, they might have a list [of things that embarrass them].’

Young dad! Ryan Phillippe told talk show host James Corden on Thursday how he regularly gets mistaken for his daughter’s brother; here Ryan posed on the carpet last February and his 17-year-old daughter, Ava, last month
‘One thing I know my daughter gets embarrassed by is that I do look so young and I get mistaken for her brother at times. It repulses her, like absolutely repulses her that anyone could mistake me for being her brother.’
And the Cruel Intentions actor – who entered fatherhood at the young age of 25 – says living at home prepared him for being a young father as his mother ran a daycare center where he helped to teach the children.
He added: ‘My mum had a daycare center in our house, so when I would get up to get ready for school, there would already be 10 children who were not part of our family in the house.’
‘It repulses her:’ The 42-year-old father-of-three spoke about embarrassing dad moments on The Late Late Show
Too close to call: Pictured earlier this fall, the Secrets And Lies star shared a photo with his daughter, who he shares with ex-wife Reese Witherspoon
On the regular: The actor said the mistake happens on the regular; the daughter and father are pictured here in August of last year
‘But then it made me ready to be a young father because I grew up raising kids,’ he said.
Adding: ‘I grew up working in the daycare. I would teach the kids to swim, I would do magic shows for them, all that kind of stuff.’
Whilst Ryan and his former wife Reese split in 2007, their view toward raising their children is the same as the 40-year-old actress recently admitted to People she wanted her kids to be passionate individuals.
Still friends: Ryan was previously married to Reese to whom he was wed for eight years before their divorce in 2007. They share Ava and Deacon, 13
Eye to eye: Despite the split, Ryan and Reese still hold the same view toward raising their children as the 40-year-old actress recently admitted to People she wanted her kids to be passionate individuals
She said: ‘My mom worked, and I think it’s good for kids to see women working and being successful. I think it’s going to make them hard workers because they see that I don’t get much sleep.’
The blonde beauty added: ‘I’m just trying to hold on, trying to make it through. My older kids help with the little one. It’s nice to have a big family … I want them to grow up with passion.’
‘This is the one life you get, and you have to live it to the very end,’ she said.
