The universe is a place of infinite wonders. Spinning galaxies. Infinitesimal quarks. John Travolta’s gloriously bald dome. And while we will continue to explore the depths of the cosmos and the worlds contained within our cells, we now have, at the very least, a better scientific understanding of Travolta’s head.
That’s because the star of Gotti (yet another wonder, in its own way) was on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night along with his daughter Ella Blue. Kimmel himself wasn’t around, but guest host Lena Waithe—herself the owner of a recently shaved head—was. “I feel like I can relate to you a little bit,” she told Travolta. “We both did the big chop.”
This, naturally, sparked a conversation on Travolta’s hairstyle (or lack thereof). The actor went viral for it when his newly freed scalp first appeared on Instagram earlier this year. And, as Waithe noted, “Your hair was pretty famous. You had this beautiful mane.” She then asked if Travolta was expecting that kind of reaction.
“No! It’s a haircut,” Travolta said. “The last time I went viral before that was when I mispronounced Idina Menzel’s name on the Oscars.”
Waithe shared her initial anxiety about shaving her own head, explaining that it’s a big move because you don’t know exactly what kind of skull shape is lurking under your hair. And that’s when Travolta decided to unravel the mystery of his bald head for the viewing audience—and the world.
“I did a movie years ago called From Paris With Love where I shaved it, so I got used to it, and some people got used to it. So it wasn’t a total shock,” he said. “And I became friends with Pitbull…All us guys have to stick together that do this. He encouraged it, as well. And the family encouraged it.”
Pitbull! Mr. Worldwide! Friend of John Travolta! And not just a friend, but the man who helped Travolta become an Instagram thirst trap and a gleaming beacon of hope for bald men around the world, no matter whether that baldness is a choice or simply the result of genetics.
Pitbull isn’t just an entertainer. He’s an influencer, an advocate of the shorn skull, and a community creator. And John Travolta is bald, in part, because of him. Dale.
