Netflix Is Setting You Up For the Ultimate Rocky Marathon This August

Let’s cut the bull and get to the point: all five original Rocky movies are coming to Netflix and damn it, we need a win. Some months are meh and we try to get excited about what’s coming to the streaming platform, and then sometimes, the sweet release of Sylvester Stallone’s filmography hits the Netflix queue and you can literally feel yourself sink deeper into that crevice you’ve carved out in the couch this summer. Get comfortable, friend, and make someone else grab that next bag of Doritos.

If by chance you’re not a Rocky fan, have no fear. Netflix is adding a string of comedy titles that are worth your while, including everything from classics like Four Weddings and a Funeral to more recent hits like The House Bunny. And if you’re up for taking a walk on the wild side (with or without a pair of cha cha heels), maybe take a minute to check out To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything! Julie Newmar. Trust us, it’s worth your time. No matter, there’s plenty of incredible selections dropping in this month. Below are six of our favorites.

Jackie Brown

Netflix is slowly bringing all of Quentin Tarantino’s films onto the platform, one by one. Last month, we got the delightful surprise in Inglourious Basterds and this month, Jackie Brown, which we called the second-best QT movie of all time. Pam Grier stars as the titular character, a flight attendant caught between two parties: an arms dealer who forced her to smuggle money or the law, which threatens to put her away for her crimes.

Four Weddings and a Funeral

Four Weddings and a Funeral might be coming to Hulu in the form of a TV series, but the OG stars Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell in one of the most beloved rom coms of the 1990s. Sending the two across the pond to England and back again, it’s as charming as its two stars.

Panic Room

This Jodie Foster and (VERY early) Kristen Stewart mashup about a home invasion is perfectly bananas. It also inspired a lot of people to look into a panic room in their own homes. Mind you, that’s very impractical, but you can’t be too careful with home invasions!

This really is less about the film Rocky and more of an umbrella term because the first five Rocky movies are coming to Netflix, which means that you need to carve out some time for a marathon. The Italian Stallion fights his way to glory time and time again, and they’re all going to be there for your consumption.

The House Bunny

We don’t give Anna Faris her fair share for being an absolutely hysterical actress. In The House Bunny, she plays a former Playmate who joins a sorority house as the house mother. While others sees the sorority as the catch all dud organization on campus, Anna Faris (and an early on Emma Stone!) turn this co-ed story into the perfect comeuppance tale.

To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar

There really isn’t much more that should be said outside of the following sentence: Wesley Snipes, Patrick Swayze, and John Leguizamo spend an entire movie in drag. If you happen to need more convincing, this film is about as outlandish and surreal as its exhaustive title, but by the time you’re done, I implore you to find a better movie that encapsulates themes of acceptance, domestic abuse, and the power of kindness. Also the very important line: Little latin boy in drag, why are you crying?
