HBO’s Watchmen, which is based on Alan Moore’s legendary graphic novel of the same name, is one of the most anticipated new shows of the fall. And in case we all weren’t hyped enough, on Friday the network released one more trailer for the Damon Lindelof-helmed series.
The latest clip is bit more explanatory than some of the other footage released so far. In it, Regina King’s Detective Angela Abar is seen apprehending a member of the Rorschach mask-wearing white supremacist group the Seventh Cavalry and handing him off for interrogation. Later, Lou Gossett Jr.’s character tells her of a “vast and insidious conspiracy” that’s probably going to be a big part of the series. Though it’s not quite as awe-inducing as July’s comic-con trailer, which featured a montage of fight scenes, car crashes, and stampeding pigs all set to David Bowie’s “Life on Mars,” this one makes great use of Roy Orbison’s “Running Scared,” so it’s hard to complain too much.
“Those original twelve issues are our Old Testament,” wrote Lost showrunner Lindelof last year of the series’ relationship to Moore’s original work. “When the New Testament came along it did not erase what came before it. Creation. The Garden of Eden. Abraham and Isaac. The Flood. It all happened. And so it will be with Watchmen. The Comedian died. Dan and Laurie fell in love. Ozymandias saved the world and Dr. Manhattan left it just after blowing Rorschach to pieces in the bitter cold of Antarctica.”
Now, Lindelof continued, his series will offer, “new faces”—and “new masks to cover them.” Watchmen debuts on October 20th.
