I’m just going to come right out and say it: Todd Snyder and Timex have done it again. I could go on and on about the nature of ongoing collaborations. I could do my best to wax philosophical about how, after a while, the inherent tension between two brands has a tendency to wane and give rise to some less-than-stellar ideas. In fact, I was going to, until I rethought things.
Because those aren’t the issues at the heart of this partnership. Todd and Timex have always shared some essential DNA. It’s not about creating conflict; it’s more about two complementary entities egging each other on. And the latest version of the Marlin that launched this week is proof that the formula is still effective.
Here’s what’s great about this particular watch: It’s not some grand departure from the rest of the timepieces in the Timex + Todd Snyder lineup. In fact, it fits squarely into the aesthetics that both Todd and Timex have established for their individual brands, too. It’s classic, but not fusty. It’s cool, but not so cool you don’t know how to work it into your existing wardrobe. It’s wearable, stylish, accessible, a little elevated—all the things you want from an everyday watch.
The twist? Well, it’s green. And gold. It’s a little different from what you’ve seen before, leaning into a bit of a ’70s vibe, but not so far in that you can’t wear it comfortably in 2019. It’s just a stylish, affordable watch, with some of that Todd + Timex spin. Like I said: They’ve done it again.
